Ancora Artisan Pizza is founded by Frank Speranza, a guy who is just really obsessed with food. He has always worked in the food industry, but it wasn’t until he was working for an Italian Food Importer where his passion for pizza sparked.

“It’s about time,” was the unanimous response Frank received upon announcing this venture. Through years of studying and working alongside master pizzaiolos, Frank became passionate about making his own pizza and invested in a wood-fired pizza oven for his backyard. After a few years of perfecting his craft for friends and family, and having his Instagram followers post emjoi’s drooling under his photos, he decided to launch Ancora Artisan Pizza, and take his fresh pizza and good vibes from his backyard...to yours. 

As part of his career as an Italian food importer, Frank traveled to pizzerias around the U.S., educating them on the importance of using clean ingredients and the differentiation in taste. Another perk of his job was traveling to Italy, with the mission to understand why the food just tastes better there. It inspired him to bring that feeling to those around him at home and he aims to bring that special experience to each Ancora Artisan Pizza client.

Frank resides in Denville with his wife, two children, and three dogs (otherwise known as pizza thieves). The family is featured in the children’s book, Princess Genevieve: The Hero with Girl Power, which was written by his wife and is available now online. Naturally, pizza is a part of the story.

His last name, Speranza, means “hope” in Italian. And one person who has also instilled a message of hope and hard work to Frank as he grew up was his late grandfather, John— a WW2 Navy Veteran with an anchor tattoo on his arm. Ancora, which means “anchor” in Italian, is not only a tribute and connection to his family, but also a symbol for the boats that import our products from Italy and provide hope for making dreams come true.
